◇Festivals Held In Kasagi Town◇

◆Spring: Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival)

All around the areas of Kasagi Station and the riversides of the Kizu River, cherry trees are in full bloom, painting nature in elegant pink.  A special event to celebrate the beauty of sakura is held on the first Sunday of April.

◆Summer: Summer Festival With Fireworks Show

A variety of events and games are held in this festival, celebrating the sunny season in this mountainous town.  The powerful booms and bright blossoms of skyrocketing fireworks will fascinate you.
The fireworks show is scheduled to be held on the first Saturday of August.

(In case of heavy rain, it will be postponed until the first fine day.)

◆Summer: Fete Of Floating Lanterns On The Water

This is a traditional event in Kasagi which has been held since 1962.  Approximately 800 lanterns floating on the surface of the Kizu River create a highly illusionary world.  It is held on August 16th every year.

◆Autumn: Autumn Festivals

On the second Saturday and Sunday of October, every shrine in the town holds a autumn festival to honor each deity of its own.

At Kunitsu Jinja, Naki-Zumo, sumo bouts by crying babies (male) are held.  At Kurisu Jinja, you see a procession of a portable shrine by children and a traditional float in the daytime.  At night local men carry Futon-Mikoshi, a float decorated with Japanese futon mats, on their shoulders and move around the area.  The other shrines also have their unique Shinto activities.

◆Autumn: Maple Festival

In the vicinity of Kasagi Temple, you can enjoy gorgeously colored maple leaves.  A special festival to appreciate this beauty is held on the third Sunday of November every year.

◆Winter: Nabe-1 Grand Prix (Competition Of Pot Dish Cooking)

This is a competition to determine the best local pot dish in Japan.  At this event, you can relish not only a variety of local pot dishes but also other local dishes coming from many prefectures.  On this occasion, official mascots of cities and prefectures get together, livening up the atmosphere.

It is held on the 1st Sunday of December.
