Kasagi Sight-Seeing Navigation No.6 (Explanation Of Sight-Seeing Spots)

◇Kanjo Nawa (Sacred Rope Protecting Local People From Evil Spirits)◇

   The Kanjo Nawa rope is hung across the Nunome River in Asukaji Chiku.  It is made of straw.

   This rope is a sacred festoon in Shinto to protect local people from evil spirits.  It is about 30 meters long and with images of male and female sexual organs, as well as Hei, white sacred papers dedicated to deities, attached along its length.  It has been designated as Kyoto Intangible Cultural Asset.
